Race Woven
Race Woven
If the rules say laminates aren’t an option, square-weaves the answer
Many of today’s racers look at race woven as a necessary evil. Almost the same cost as many laminate products but still required by many classes where more exotic material are not allowed. Square Weave fabrics are the undisputed leader in race woven fabric types. Square Weave fabrics are an evolution of low stretch woven fabrics and share many of the same characteristics. The three things we look for in a good true Square Weave Fabric is 1) a very tight weave; these will be the tightest woven polyester material available. 2) Highly resonated; these fabrics will be the stiffest fabrics for their weight. 3) Distinctive “square weave pattern” this does two different things. It acts as a rip stop helping to prevent tearing and if a tear does occur helps stop a tear from travelling. Also the weaving helps carry the secondary loads in the sail to prevent distortion.
