Cruising Nylon

A cruising spinnaker is one sail you can use that will make your boat much lively and fun downwind. The generic name for these sails is the asymmetrical pole-less cruising spinnaker. Needless to say, we came up a shorter term for it so; we call this sail the Flasher because it can be hoisted gybed and doused in a flash by a cruising couple.

The Flasher is an asymmetrical spinnaker, which means the sail looks more like a large deep nylon genoa. The Flasher delivers almost as much pulling power as a full-size spinnaker, but requires about half the rigging and trimming. No pole is required so there are no guys no topping lift and no additional mast fittings. All you need is a halyard two sheets and a “tack line” at the bow of the boat. Gybing is as simple as letting one sheet out and pulling the new one in on the other side of the boat.

To make your flasher even easier to handle several different handling systems such as a continuous line furling unit or dousing sock system can be used.
